TANAP to further strengthen positions of Azerbaijan, Turkey in global energy market

Once the Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP) is commissioned, the positions of Azerbaijan and Turkey in the global energy market will become even stronger, the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources of Turkey told on May 23.

Turkey has always been optimistic about the implementation of this project, according to the ministry.

TANAP has never been considered as an alternative to any other project, in turn, the TANAP has no other alternative, either,” the ministry said.

Earlier, Berat Albayrak, the minister of energy and natural resources of Turkey, said that the commissioning ceremony of TANAP will be held June 12, 2018.

TANAP project envisages transportation of gas from Azerbaijan's Shah Deniz field to the western borders of Turkey. The gas will be delivered to Turkey in 2018 and after completion of the Trans Adriatic Pipeline's construction the gas will be delivered to Europe in early 2020.

The length of TANAP is 1,850 kilometers with an initial capacity of 16 billion cubic meters of gas. Around six billion cubic meters of this gas is meant to be delivered to Turkey, with the remaining volume to be supplied to Europe.
