Turkey hopes for Turkmenistan

Turkey hopes for Ashgabat's participation in the TANAP project as Turkmenistan plays a key role in the energy industry of the region, said Ambassador of Turkey to Turkmenistan Mustafa Kapucu, Turkmen media report.

"The TANAP project is very important for strengthening the energy security of Europe, and all the countries through which the gas pipeline will be laid are interested in Turkmenistan as a participant of the SGC [Southern Gas Corridor] project," the diplomat said.

Kapucu noted that all interested parties are looking forward to the signing of the Caspian Convention and the determination of the status of the Caspian Sea.

A pipeline from Turkmenistan to Azerbaijan along the bottom of the Caspian Sea, supplying Turkmen gas to Europe through TANAP, would increase the profitability of the project, said the ambassador.

In May 2015, the Ashgabat Declaration on energy was signed by the Ministers of Energy of Azerbaijan, Turkey, Turkmenistan and the Vice-President of the European Commission for Energy Issues Maros Sefcovic. The project to lay a 300-kilometer gas pipeline along the Caspian Sea bottom to the shores of Azerbaijan, as previously noted by the interested parties, is optimal for the delivery of Turkmen resources to the European market.

Further, Turkmen gas can get into Turkey, which borders the European countries.
