BP to continue cooperation with Azerbaijan

BP will continue its cooperation with Azerbaijan, said Bernard Looney, BP chief executive for upstream, at the ceremony of launching the first phase of the Southern Gas Corridor project, which involves the delivery of Azerbaijani gas to Europe, in Baku May 29.

The first stage of the project involves the transportation of gas from the Shah Deniz field through the South Caucasus Pipeline and the Trans-Anatolian Pipeline (TANAP) to the Turkish city of Eskisehir.

Speaking about the Southern Gas Corridor, Looney noted that, thanks to it, gas will go directly to the European market in the second stage of development of the Shah Deniz field by 2020.

Looney noted that Shah Deniz is one of the biggest gas fields in the world and more than 24,000 people took part in its development.

Reminding that this month Azerbaijan celebrates the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, he quoted the head of state that if the founders of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic could see today's Azerbaijan, they would be proud of it.

Looney stressed that there are many reasons and there will be even more reasons in the future for feeling proud of Azerbaijan.
