"We expect 12 to 13 thousand people to attend the summit. The U.S. delegation alone usually consists of about 1,000 people. We also expect to receive about 1,500 members of the press. The hotels (in the region) are making their preparations accordingly," Antalya Governor Muammer Turker told The Anadolu Agency.
The Foreign Ministry has asked that the hotels in the region not be booked during the summit, he said.
The two-day summit, which will be held under the presidency of Turkey on Nov. 15 and 16, will bring together the G-20 leaders including U.S. President Barack Obama, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Japanese PM Shinzo Abe.
It will also enhance the city`s popularity as a tourism destination, Turker added.
The G20 is an international forum for the governments and Central Bank governors of 20 major economies, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Russia, Japan, Canada, Germany, France, Italy, Turkey, Australia, Brazil, Argentine, India, China, Indonesia, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea and the European Commission, the executive body of the EU.
Turkey assumed the G20 presidency last December, vowing to fight global inequality.
