Velayati: Russia wants to create bridge for electricity exchange jointly with Iran, Azerbaijan

Russia wants to create a bridge for the exchange of electricity jointly with Iran and Azerbaijan, Ali Akbar Velayati, a top adviser to Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, told a briefing on Saturday.

“Russians want a bridge for electricity exchange between Russia, Iran and Azerbaijan to be created, and if necessary, the need of the three countries for electricity is provided through this bridge,” Velayati said.

In his remarks, the top adviser also touched upon the ongoing talks on the legal status of the Caspian Sea.

“A summit of the Caspian states will be held in the capital of Kazakhstan in the near future. During the meeting the Caspian states are planning to sign a document banning third countries’ military presence in the region. This is a very important issue,” he said.

As for Tehran-Moscow cooperation on Syria, Velayati said. “Despite the claims that Iran stands against Russia’s presence in Syria, Russian President Putin said that the two countries will continue cooperation in the region.”

The top adviser continued as saying “Tehran will host a meeting on Syria, where the presidents of Russia and Turkey will take part.”
