Number of foreigners granted refugee status in Azerbaijan rises

The number of foreigners granted a refugee status in Azerbaijan has increased by 23 and reached 75, said Vusal Huseynov, Head of the State Migration Service.

Foreigners residing in Azerbaijan as refugees are mainly citizens of Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iran, Huseynov said on Thursday at a press conference dedicated to the 6-month activity of the State Migration Service, AzVision.az reports.

As of 1 July 2018, as many as 32,648 foreigners and stateless persons obtained temporary residence permits in Azerbaijan, while 11,288 foreigners and stateless persons were granted permanent residence permits, noted Huseynov.

He went on to say that the State Migration Service received 13,341 appeals on determination of citizenship affiliation during the reporting period.

He noted that appropriate decisions were made in regard to 9,603 foreigners and stateless persons who had violated the migration legislation within the fight against illegal migration, which implies a 2 percent increase in comparison with last period.

Huseynov added that the control of illegal labor activity will also be strengthened.
