Russian Navy ship evacuates from Yemen 308 people of 19 nationalities, including 5 Azerbaijanis
A Russian Navy ship has evacuated some 308 people of 19 nationalities from crisis-hit Yemen, where Saudi Arabia has been conducting a military aggression for over two weeks, AzVision.az reports quoting TASS.

"Among those evacuated from the zone of military operations near [the southern port of] Aden are nationals of 19 countries," Konashenkov said, noting five citizens of Azerbaijan, some 45 citizens of the Russian Federation, 18 citizens of the United States, five citizens of Great Britain, one citizen of Bulgaria, six citizens of Estonia, 14 citizens of Ukraine, nine citizens of Belarus, three citizens of Turkmenistan, eight citizens of Uzbekistan, one citizen of Bahrein, five citizens of Djibouti, 159 citizens of Yemen, one citizen of Somali, three citizens of Palestine, 13 citizens of Jordan, nine citizens of Cuba, two citizens of Egypt and one citizen of Saudi Arabia.

“All the evacuated citizens are safe on board the Russian ship that will bring them to Djibouti by [Sunday] morning," Konashenkov added.

He also noted that the Russian warship carries out anti-piracy activities in the Gulf of Aden.

Since March 26, Yemen has been under violent Saudi airstrikes, which started without a UN mandate in a bid to restore power to the country’s fugitive former president, Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, a staunch ally of Riyadh.

A spokesperson for the Yemeni army, fighting alongside Ansarullah fighters, said on Thursday that at least 1,000 people, including 200 children, have been killed in the Saudi airstrikes.

He added that 15,000 others have also been injured since the start of the Saudi military campaign.

The World Health Organization (WHO) said on April 7 that more than 540 people had been killed in Yemen since mid-March.

Christian Lindmeier, a WHO spokesman, noted that the death toll was related to the period between March 19 and April 6.
