Considering the ever-growing role of the field of law in the growth of economy and attraction of investments, the Memorandum is to provide for closer cooperation between ministries from both countries and exchange of experience, strengthening efficiency of court activities, training of judges and legal experts, promotion of e-justice, as well as effective management of probation and penitentiary system.

To this end, a delegation led by the Minister of Justice of Latvia Dzintars Rasnačs is visiting Baku. The same day Azerbaijan’s Justice Minister and Chairman of the Council of Justice Fikrat Mammadov met with the Latvian delegation.

During the meeting, Fikrat Mammadov noted particular role of the heads of state in establishing strategic partnership relations between the two states with 100 years of history, expressed pleasure with efficient development of the friendly and cooperation activities, including in the judicial sphere. The Minister said that the departments they supervise successfully cooperate also in the frame of EU’s Eastern Partnership program.

Ministers of Justice of Azerbaijan and Latvia have discussed reforms and topical development trends in the field of justice. Minister Dzintars Rasnačs expressed confidence for further development of ties between the justice departments of both countries.

The Latvian guests were highlighted also on the current situation in the settlement of the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno Karabakh conflict, its heavy consequences, military aggression of Armenia against Azerbaijan, destructive position of Armenia in solution of the problem.

Ambassadors of both countries Javanshir Akhundov and Juris Maklakovs took part at the meeting.
