Armenia should withdraw from occupied lands of Azerbaijan - Turkish parliament speaker
Armenia should withdraw from the occupied Azerbaijani lands, Turkish parliament speaker Cemil Cicek said during his visit to Moscow, the Turkish news agency Anadolu reported April 15.

Cicek said that Turkey`s position regarding the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is clear and distinct.

“Turkey puts the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict on the agenda at all international conferences,” said Cicek.

Unfortunately, the OSCE Minsk Group still shows no activity to solve this conflict, he said.

Cicek said that it is impossible to achieve peace in the South Caucasus without the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the US are currently holding peace negotiations. Armenia has not yet implemented the UN Security Council`s four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
