Azerbaijan's Nakhchivan Automobile Plant is implementing a project for production of electric cars, which, along with being cost-effective, are environmentally friendly, Director of the Nakhchivan Automobile Plant Musa Abdullayev told on Oct. 3.

At the same time, the plant ordered ambulances based on a LIFAN commercial minivan and the first models will be assembled in early 2019.

“The Nakhchivan Automobile Plant was commissioned in 2010 in Azerbaijan's Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, which is in blockade by Armenia, to participate in and support the social and economic development of the autonomous republic,” said Abdullayev. “More than 5,000 cars have been produced at the plant so far.”

He noted that initially the plant assembled four models of LIFAN cars, which are sold in Azerbaijan under the NAZ-LIFAN brand. The range has grown to 14 different models, he said.

“Our cars meet modern design and the highest safety standards, environmental requirements that are applied in the automotive industry,” Abdullayev added. “Over the years, the network of service and sales of cars have increased significantly. In addition, the warranty period for our cars has been extended to three years or to 150,000 kilometers.”

Presently, the plant produces the following models: NAZ-LIFAN 820, which is referred to as a business sedan, NAZ-LIFAN 650 (NAZ-LIFAN 620-II), equipped with a new 1.5-liter engine, with low fuel consumption and a new design, NAZ-LIFAN X60 - a crossover with an updated exterior and interior and a modified engine that consumes less fuel, and NAZ-LIFAN 330, which is an economical hatchback.

“Presently, the plant is working to localize the production of some spare parts, and this will make it possible to reduce the cost of cars produced at the plant,” Abdullayev said.
