Chairman of the State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations Mubariz Gurbanli made the remarks at the international conference “Islamic enlightenment and modernity” held in Baku on Wednesday.
Stressing that Azerbaijan is an integral part of the Islamic civilization, the committee chairman said Azerbaijan plays the role of a beacon in the fight against religious prejudices and backwardness.
“Azerbaijan’s role in the development of the Islamic enlightenment cannot be denied. Our scientists promote the true Islam. The provocations directed against the young people under the guise of Islam and the radicalism are prevented in the country. The Islamic studies enter a new stage of development. We should preserve our national and moral values, and train our national personnel. Today, there is a great need for researches of Azerbaijani scientists and islamists in the promotion of the Islamic values,” he noted.
