Council of Europe appoints new special representative for Central Asia
The Council of Europe has appointed Slovak diplomat Peter Burian as the EU special representative for Central Asia, the message of the European Union External Action Service (EEAS) said Apr.17.
The EU special representative for Central Asia focuses on political coordination of the EU in the region, monitoring the EU strategy and supporting regional security.

Peter Burian, who got tenure on April 15, replaced Janos Herman, who had been in office since April 2014.

Peter Burian has been the state secretary of the Slovak Foreign Ministry since April 2012, he had been the ambassador to the US and the representative of Slovakia to the UN Security Council, the EEAS said. His mandate will not expire until April 30, 2016.
