Construction of Baku-Nakhchivan railway in Azerbaijan being revised - official

Construction project of a railway between Baku and Azerbaijan’s Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic is being revised, Chairman of Azerbaijan Railways CJSC Javid Gurbanov told reporters in Baku Oct. 22.

He said that Azerbaijan is working on this issue.

“The construction of the railway requires a fresh look,” Gurbanov said. “So the Azerbaijani government is reconsidering this issue.”

However, he added that the government is making efforts to build this railway.

Creation of a direct railway communication between Baku and Nakhchivan will be possible after completion of construction of the Iranian section of the International North-South Transport Corridor.

Upon completion of construction of the Iranian section, it will be possible to create a 1,450-kilometer corridor between Baku and Nakhchivan along the territory of Iran.
