Azerbaijani delegation attends 8th UNAOC Global Forum

An Azerbaijani delegation led by Minister of Culture Abulfaz Garayev is participating in the 8th Global Forum of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) at United Nations Headquarters, New York.

“#Commit2Dialogue: Partnerships for Prevention and Sustaining Peace” is the theme of the 8th Global Forum. The forum brings together more than 1,000 participants to share their expertise and explore innovative ways of promoting inclusive approaches to conflict prevention as a pathway for sustaining peace.

The opening ceremony was addressed by United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, High Representative for the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser, as well as Turkish and Spanish foreign ministers.

“The role of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations has never been more relevant to the 2030 Agenda objective of “building more peaceful, just and resilient societies,” Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said at the event. He explained its mission as “fundamental to peace, to security, to sustainable development, to the world we need to build,” while underscoring the need to promote conditions where people of different identities, faiths and cultures “can live in harmony, free of discrimination and persecution.”

Minister Abulfaz Garayev will deliver a speech on Azerbaijan`s contribution to the intercultural dialogue and hold meetings with UN officials.

The 7th Global Forum of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC): “Living Together in Inclusive Societies: A Challenge and A Goal”, which was attended by more than 4,000 representatives from 147 countries, was held in Baku on April 25-27, 2016.
