UN to cooperate with Iran in water resources management
United Nations representative in Iran said on Wednesday that the United Nations would cooperate with Iran on management of water resources and protection of wetlands, IRNA reported.
The UN resident coordinator Gary Lewis during visit of historical sites of Shush city told IRNA that the most important challenges of the world is water resources management, including surface and underground waters as well as protection of wetlands.

He said that considering the global climate change, protection of environment and protection of water resources have become priority.

He added that climate situations are a serious challenge to environment, so to decrease affects of the phenomenon, the UN is determined to cooperate with Iran.

Lewis said that Iran and the UN have reached an agreement on six priority issues to cooperate with each other and one of the six priorities is environment.

He said that the aim of his visit to Khuzestan province is to study the environmental situation and wetlands of the province as well as meeting with governor general to find a proper tactics for cooperation with Iran.

Concerning his visit to historical sites of Shush, Lewis said that it was an important experience for me.

`I was impressed because issues which I read about ancient Iran civilization, now I am visiting closely.`

Shush or Susa is one of the most known cities of the ancient world, which was capital of different dynasties.

Shush is located 100 kilometers north of Ahvaz, capital of Khuzestan province.
