US Vice President, Mayor of Kiev Discuss Transparency, Corruption
US Vice President Joe Biden and the Mayor of Kiev Vitaly Klichko met at the White House on Monday to discuss the conflict in Ukraine and fighting corruption in the country, the White House said in a statement.
Kiev’s mayor discussed reforms to improve transparency and efforts to reduce corruption in the city’s budget and public procurement, according to the statement.

Biden told Klichko that improving transparency and ending corruption would be an important measure of progress in Ukraine.

“The Vice President and Mayor discussed the conflict between Russia and Ukraine and the vital importance of implementing reforms in Ukraine,” the statement, issued on Monday, read.

Ukraine ranks 142 out of 175 countries, according to Transparency International’s Corruption Index.
