President Aliyev: Azerbaijan
Though the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is an obstacle to the development of economy, Azerbaijan has developed its economy since its independence

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev made an opening speech at the 3rd Global Forum that started in Baku on April 28. The forum has been organized by the Azerbaijani State Committee for Work with Diaspora and the Nizami Ganjavi International Center.

The head of state said that Azerbaijan`s economy depends on oil for 30 percent.

“Azerbaijan is open for investments. About $70 billion has been invested in the country in recent years. We take the 30th place in the world in terms of competitiveness. We have almost eliminated the unemployment, and the unemployment rate dropped to 5 percent. Poverty declined from 49 percent to 5 percent. Transparency plays a significant role in revenues obtained from energy resources and the use of public funds. Our government is developing technology and agriculture. Azerbaijan has two satellites, and the space industry is developing”, he noted.

The president said the reforms will continue.

“We should do our utmost to strengthen our state. A state falls under influence when it is economically weak. Azerbaijan defends itself from the external influences. Today, we are independent and must preserve our independence. Our choice is democracy, peace, multiculturalism and cooperation”, President Aliyev underlined.
