Where there is no Turkey, Ankara is represented by the Azerbaijani people, led by President Ilham Aliyev, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said at a meeting with Azerbaijani and Turkish students in Washington DC, the Turkish media reports.

The foreign minister noted that, being one nation - two states, Turkey and Azerbaijan very often act as a single state.

Cavusoglu noted that relations between the two countries are at the highest level and this cooperation is aimed at the benefit of the region.

"Today, Turkey and Azerbaijan are implementing a number of very important projects, such as TANAP and the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railway," he said.

Commenting on the trilateral cooperation between Turkey, Iran and Azerbaijan, Cavusoglu said that this format is very important for ensuring stability in the South Caucasus.
