North Korea suspected of executing 15 senior officials
Report says vice forestry minister executed for allegedly complaining about forestation plans, orchestra members put to death for espionage.
South Korean lawmakers have claimed that North Korea has put to death 15 senior officials in public executions.

South Korea`s state news agency reported that among the 15 were a forestry minister - executed in January for allegedly complaining about forestation plans - and four members of the Unhasu Orchestra who were put to death in March on charges of espionage.

Yonhap said Wednesday that the allegations were made by South Korea`s spy agency in a closed-door parliamentary session.

Lee Cheol-woo, a lawmaker of the ruling Saenuri Party, said the Unhasu members included the head of the orchestra - in which North Korean first lady Ri Sol-ju was once a singer.

Japanese media reported in 2013 that some members had been executed along with an art troupe for making pornography.

They alleged that the execution was designed to cover up Ri`s involvement.

In 2013, North Korea`s leader Kim Jong-un had his once-powerful uncle, Jang Song-thaek, executed on charges of treason.
