Russian MP proposes giving Baku "City of labor valor" title

Dmitry Savelyev, a member of the Russian State Duma, has proposed that Baku be given the title of "City of labor valor".

The proposal came as the State Duma discussed a bill aimed at laying a legal framework for conferring the title of "City of labor valor" ahead of the forthcoming 75th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War.

Savelyev praised Baku`s contribution to the victory in the war, saying the city`s residents were working day and night to supply fuel for Soviet tanks and aircrafts. "Baku supplied 80 percent of the total volume of fuel consumed by the Soviet Union throughout the war."

The MP stressed the importance of paying tribute to those who were killed at the battlefields and those who worked tirelessly at the home front.
