Andrea Bocelli to offer Easter concert streaming on YouTube

The world-renowned Italian tenor, Andrea Bocelli will be offering a live concert on Easter Sunday. While the concert-hall, the Duomo Cathedral of Milan, Italy, will be empty, fans around the world will be able to watch the event live on YouTube .

The time is set for 6 pm UK time, which translates to Noon CT.

“I believe in the strength of praying together; I believe in the Christian Easter, a universal symbol of rebirth that everyone – whether they are believers or not – truly needs right now,” Bocelli said in a statement.

In the past, Bocelli has teamed up with some of the most famous singers in the world, but due to social distancing, this concert will be a solo affair. The only other artist that will appear with Bocelli is Emanuele Vianelli, an organist. The concert will offer some of the common pieces you’d expect to hear on Easter and from Bocelli. Songs will include “Ave Maria,” “Amazing Grace,” and “Mascagni’s Sancta Maria.”

Milan’s mayor, Giuseppe Sala, invited Bocelli to perform and was happy to learn that he accepted the invitation.

In a statement to Classic FM, Sala said, “This year, Easter will be very different for all of us. The joyous serenity that usually comes with this day has been greatly troubled by the pandemic we are experiencing. I am sure that the extraordinary voice of Bocelli will be the embrace we are missing these days, a strong, special hug, capable of warming the heart of Milan, Italy and the world.”

Music for Hope LIVE will be raising money for coronavirus relief efforts with the hopes of helping more hospitals get the equipment they need. Bocelli is not being paid for this performance. Instead, he accepted the invitation free of charge, and his organization will be trying to raise money for charity.
