   COVID-19 Updates: Global Death Toll Reaches 425,000

The death toll from the global coronavirus pandemic has reached 425,394; over 7.65 million cases of the infection have been detected, and almost 3.63 million of those patients have recovered, according to Baltimore, Maryland's Johns Hopkins University, which tracks and compiles data from national and local authorities, the media and other sources.

The European Union has received a political mandate from member states to distribute a safe and effective vaccine against COVID-19 across the continent when it is developed.

Brazil overtook UK in terms of the number of people who have died from COVID-19, with 41,828 deaths.

Brazil ranks second globally in terms of coronavirus cases after the United States, which has recorded more than 2 million COVID-19 patients.

The United States still has the highest case count in the world, with 2,048,986, including 114,669 fatalities and 547,386 recoveries.
