On the initiative of President Ilham Aliyev, the Republic of Azerbaijan has taken a humanitarian step and handed over bodies of about 30 Armenian soldiers and officers who remained on the battlefield, Hikmet Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan, Head of Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration said during his visit to the territory in Barda.
Hajiyev note, the head of state also put forward an initiative to hand over 2 elderly Armenians to the opposite side:
“Armenia did not show good intentions in this matter. In this regard, we highly appreciate the efforts of the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation and personally the Minister of Defence of the Russian Federation Sergei Shoygu. As a result of the Russian Federation's support for this humanitarian initiative, the Armenian side agreed to open a humanitarian corridor in the direction of Gazakh-Tovuz and, as a result, accept its citizens and bodies of soldiers. This operation was recently completed. "
