The Church was built with Russian-style in 1909 under project of architect M.F. Verzhbitsky at expense of private financial assistance and donations of famous Azerbaijani millionaire and philanthropist Haji Tagiyev, the ministry told AzVision.az.
His Holiness the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Alexy II consecrated the temple and the church was granted a status of the main cathedral church during his visit on May 27, 2001. The opening ceremony was attended by Heydar Aliyev National Leader of Azerbaijan, government officials, diplomats and religious leaders.
