CoE SecGen comments on Karabakh peace statements at PACE spring session

The Secretary-General of the Council of Europe (CoE) Marija Pejčinović Burić highlighted the significance of the establishment of a dialogue with other countries in difficult times such as the crisis in and around the Nagorno-Karabakh region adding that dialogue is one of the basic principles of the CoE in her speech at the PACE spring session.

Marija Pejčinović Burić also stated that they put a lot of effort to achieve the solution to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. "We welcome the peace statements signed on November 2020 to cease the hostilities in Karabakh", Burić noted.

"Following the ceasefire, we managed to establish a dialogue with official Baku and Yerevan. Currently, the main issue is to comply with the conditions of the peace statements and work on a final peace agreement. However, the most important thing for the final peace statement is to build trust between the parties. Unfortunately, this process is adversely impacted by a number of aggressive speeches and incidents", she added.
