Azerbaijan MFA: There is no "status" issue as there is no "Nagorno-Karabakh"

Leyla Abdullayeva, Chief of the Press Service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, commented on the statement made by the Media and Public Diplomacy Department of the Armenian Foreign Ministry on July 23, 2021.

The statement reads:

Of course, it is good that the Armenian Foreign Ministry is closely following the interviews and speeches of the Azerbaijani President. However, it is important not just to read these interviews, but to understand them correctly and draw conclusions.

First, yes, our ancestors lived in Zangazur, this is a historical fact. Our compatriots, who have historically lived here, as well as in other parts of modern Armenia, have fallen victim to the policy of ethnic cleansing and have been expelled from their homes, which is a historical reality. As for the absurd claim of Azerbaijan to "occupy" Armenian territories, as President Ilham Aliyev clearly stated in the interview, we have crossed our borders and are strengthening our borders. Armenia, which does not want to reconcile with the realities of the post-war period, as a country that has been disrespecting international law for decades as an aggressor, must continue to think before speaking about the norms of international law.
