North Korea Sends 20 Assault Hovercraft to Yellow Sea
North Korea sent some 20 air-cushioned assault landing crafts, capable of deploying special task forces, to the Yellow Sea, Yonhap reported.
The vehicles might be heading to the Goampo naval base which is just 60 kilometers away from the inter-Korean sea border, the news agency said citing military sources.

The North Korean People’s Army possesses two types of hovercraft: 35-ton and 20-ton vehicles that can reach a speed of nearly 100 kmph and transport special task forces.

Reportedly, earlier Pyongyang doubled its artillery troops along the demilitarized zone and also deployed dozens of submarines. Seoul cannot locate 50 of them.
In response, the US, South Korea’s ally, is mulling over sending the B-52 strategic bombers and a nuclear submarine to the peninsula.

The tensions between the two Koreas sharply declined on August 20 when the sides exchanged artillery fire. The parties to the conflict have been holding talks to alleviate the tensions.
