"If the largest opposition list [the ‘United for the Victory of Serbia’ coalition - TASS] would wish to run for early city elections, we are ready. We believe that it would be logical to have at least a six-month pause but we can enter the elections earlier if they insist. This will be myy proposal to the ruling party and the Serbian Progressive Party," the Serbian leader said on TV Sunday.
According to Vucic, Aleksandar Sapic will remain the Progressive Party’s candidate for the Belgrade Mayor office.
Presidential and snap parliamentary elections took place in Serbia on April 3. Simultaneously, elections to the City Assembly of Belgrade and 12 municipalities of Serbia took place. Vucic won the first round of presidential elections with 58.57% of votes. His coalition "Together we can do everything" won the parliamentary elections with 42.97% of votes.
In Belgrade, Vucic’s coalition showed worse results than average across the country, only managing to gather the minimal majority in the City Assembly.
