During the meeting, Vugar Suleymanov provided information on the creation of the Agency, its goals, and tasks, as well as the work done in the direction of combating the current mine threat in Azerbaijan.
Vladimir Georgiyev informed officials about the current activities of IOM in Azerbaijan. It was brought to attention that the IOM currently pays special attention to the rehabilitation of kahrizes - traditional water-supply systems. Within the IOM’s project, two kahrizes located in the Jabrail district will be rehabilitated.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the assessment of mine and other explosive munitions contamination of the kahirizes located in the regained areas, implementation of demining operations for their safe restoration, assistance to mine victims, and possible cooperation prospects in other directions.
