Azerbaijani Prosecutor General's Office appeals to OECD, CoE over Armenia's environmental crimes

The investigation of the information about the pollution of Araz and Okchuchay in the region bordering the Republic of Armenia is being continued in the Prosecutor General's Office of Azerbaijan.

The intensive pollution of trans-border Okchuchay by Armenia's large mining enterprises Kajaran Copper-Molybdenum Plant and the Gafan Ore Processing Plant, construction of a large metallurgical plant in the village of Yeraskh (Arazdayan) without consultation with the Azerbaijani side, and the violation of environmental protection norms at this time made it necessary to take additional measures.

In this regard, the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Azerbaijan addressed an appeal to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development and the Council of Europe.

In the application, the UN Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes Protection and Espoo (Environmental Impact Measurement) conventions, as well as the requirements of environmental protection, compliance with the norms of proper organization of mining facilities and the determination of environmental damage the importance of cooperation with institutions was emphasized.
