Putin confident Russia, Türkiye to develop relations

Russian President Vladimir Putin has congratulated his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the 100th anniversary of the proclamation of the Turkish Republic, saying that cooperation between Moscow and Ankara will continue to develop, according to TASS.

"I am confident that we will continue to consistently expand the scope of bilateral ties for the benefit of our friendly nations, aiming to build a more just and democratic world order," the telegram published on the Kremlin website said.

"Russian-Turkish relations are developing in the spirit of friendship and neighbourliness, which was fully confirmed at our recent meeting in Sochi," the president said. Cooperation in various spheres is yielding good results, major joint projects are being systematically implemented, he added. Moscow and Ankara are successfully coordinating their efforts in resolving key issues on the regional and global agenda, the Russian head of state pointed out.

Putin noted that over the past century, Türkiye has overcome many challenges and achieved universally recognized successes in economic, social and other spheres. According to him, it is "a highly respected country on the global stage, and rightfully so."

On October 29, 1923, the Grand National Assembly proclaimed the establishment of the Republic of Türkiye with Ankara as its capital. The USSR was the first country to recognize Türkiye's independence.
