The 4th Session of the UNECE-ECO Coordination Committee on the Trans-Caspian and Almaty-Tehran-Istanbul Corridors has been held in Geneva in a hybrid format, according to the official website of TRACECA.
Vice-Chair of the Working Party on Transport Trends and Economics (WP.5) Burak Aykan and Director of the Transport Division at the ECO Secretariat Akbar Khodaei addressed the participants of the Session with welcoming remarks.
Then, representatives of the ECE Secretariat presented the results of the Secretariat activities carried out since the last session, held in Baku in July 2023.
The meeting was attended by members of the Coordinating Committee, including representatives of Azerbaijan, Georgia, Islamic Republic of Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Türkiye and Uzbekistan, as well as representatives of partner organizations.
According to the agenda, the members of the Coordinating Committee – representatives of railway administrations, customs, ministries of transport from the above-mentioned countries shared with the participants updated information on the recent developments and activities in support of the Coordinating Committee work.
Secretary General of the PS IGC TRACECA Asset Assavbayev noted the work carried out by the Permanent Secretariat on piloting electronic CIM/SMGS consignment note, particularly, holding a regular WG meeting on the application of the CIM/SMGS consignment note and gradual transition to its electronic analogue (discussion of legal and technical aspects), informal meeting of IT experts from railways (discussion of the current status of information exchange between 5 countries), etc.
During the session, the participants also exchanged views on the adoption of the Unified Railway Law, developments relating to TIR/ eTIR and other digitalization aspects, and their relevance for the Trans-Caspian and Almaty-Tehran-Istanbul Corridors.
