Armenia arrests former deputy chief of general staff

Former deputy chief of the General Staff of the Armenian Armed Forces Lt-Gen Tiran Khachatryan, who was hiding from the police, has been arrested.

According to the information, the previous day during a party in a restaurant there was a quarrel, during which General Tiran Khachatryan opened fire. As a result of the shooting, Karabakh Armenian Hrayr Mnatsakanyan, who lives in the village of Akunk, was wounded, AzVision.az reports citing Armenian media.

Khachatryan shot Hrayr Mnatsakanyan with a personal weapon given to him by former Defense Minister David Tonoyan.

The police and the Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Armenia are conducting the necessary joint investigative and search activities to clarify the circumstances of the incident, the identity of the participants in the dispute, as well as their discovery and the weapons used in the crime.
