Voter activity in Azerbaijan's recently liberated territories reached impressive heights during the country's presidential election, according to the Information Center of the Central Election Commission.
Head of the Center, Farid Orujov, reported turnout figures ranging from 76.55% to 83.28% across the eight liberated constituencies. Notably, Khankendi recorded the highest participation with 83.28%, followed by Lachin at 79.7% and Kalbajar at 80.57%.
This marks a significant milestone as it represents the first time these territories participated in a nationwide election since their liberation from Armenian occupation. The overall turnout in the liberated areas significantly exceeded the national average, highlighting the strong desire of residents to exercise their democratic right.
The election concluded with incumbent President Ilham Aliyev securing a landslide victory, garnering 92.1% of the vote after 54.47% of ballots were processed. Other candidates received minimal support, with Zahid Oruj coming in second with 2.2%.
With over 6 million eligible voters and 90,000 observers present across 6,537 polling stations nationwide, the election was conducted under close scrutiny and deemed free and fair by international observers.
This historic election not only determined Azerbaijan's next president but also signifies the successful reintegration of the liberated territories into the country's political and social fabric. The high voter turnout in these regions demonstrates the renewed hope and engagement of residents in shaping their future.
