Azerbaijan, Serbia enjoy strategic partnership relations - deputy minister

Azerbaijan and Serbia maintain strategic partnership relations based on political principles of international law, in particular territorial integrity, sovereignty, and invariability of internationally recognized borders, Deputy Foreign Minister Fariz Rzayev said, AzVision.az reports.

He made the remarks at the 8th meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation between Azerbaijan and Serbia held in Baku.

“It is extremely important to continue the constructive practice of principled mutual support within the framework of international platforms and organizations. The memorandum on the establishment of the Strategic Partnership Council between Azerbaijan and Serbia, signed in Belgrade in November 2022 during the official visit of President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, reflects the firm political will of our countries to further deepen bilateral relations,” Rzayev said.

According to him, the Intergovernmental Commission plays an essential role in the development of trade and economic relations between the two countries.

“So far, energy cooperation is the major one, but other spheres are also developing. There are also opportunities for cooperation in the road sector, infrastructure, construction, tourism, humanitarian sphere, and education,” he noted.

Rzayev also emphasized the importance of the launch of the agreement on a visa-free regime for holders of ordinary passports between the governments of Azerbaijan and Serbia, which came into force last year.

He mentioned that it is indeed an important contribution to the development of tourism and people-to-people contacts.

“We highly appreciate the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the cities of Shusha (Azerbaijan) and Novi Pazar (Serbia) last March,” Rzayev added, emphasizing that it was the first such document after the liberation of the city of Shusha from years of military occupation.
