F1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix features track modifications

Ahead of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix 2024, the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) has outlined changes to the Baku City Circuit and confirmed the locations of two Drag Reduction System (DRS) zones.

Significant modifications have been made to the track compared to last year. Notable changes include the repositioning of barriers in several key sections: at the exit of Turn 1, between Turns 3 and 4 on the right side, between Turns 12 and 13 on the right side, and at Turn 15 on the right side, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.

The track boundary line has been moved closer to the wall at the exit of Turn 12. New barriers have been installed in the runoff areas of Turn 16, between Turns 18 and 19, along the straight between Turns 6 and 7 on the left side, and between Turns 19 and 20 on the left side. Several small sections of asphalt have been replaced at the pit exit, between Turns 2 and 3, and between Turns 7 and 8.

Baku will retain two DRS zones for this year’s race, with the second zone extended by an additional 100 metres compared to last year. The detection point for the interval between cars before the first DRS zone is aligned with the second safety car line, and the system can be activated 54 metres after Turn 2. The detection point for the second DRS zone is located at the apex of Turn 20, with activation possible 347 metres after the corner.

The upcoming 2024 Formula 1 Qatar Airways Azerbaijan Grand Prix will be held in Baku on September 13-15, 2024. The Azerbaijan Grand Prix is a Formula One motor racing event that was held for the first time in 2017. It is held on the Baku City Circuit, a street circuit in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan. The event is due to take place at the Baku City Circuit until at least 2026.
