Armenia interested in purchasing additional artillery units from India

Armenia is looking to acquire additional 155 mm ATAGS artillery units from India, Sujan Chinoy, Director General of India’s Manohar Parrikar Institute for Defense Studies and Analyses (MP-IDSA), told Sputnik Armenia, AzVision.az reports.

Chinoy mentioned that Delhi has already exported Swathi radar systems to Yerevan under a contract valued at $40 million.

He also highlighted that India’s missile launch system is among the best in the world and is in high demand.

Furthermore, Armenia has expressed interest in acquiring “Pinaka” multi-barreled missile launchers, valued at approximately $250 million, the director general noted.

Previously, media reports indicated that Yerevan ordered towed artillery systems worth $155 million from Delhi in 2022. The first batch of six 155 mm towed howitzers was delivered in August 2023.

Notably, following negotiations between the defense ministries of Armenia and India in 2024, a Cooperation Plan for 2024-2025 was signed. This meeting marked the first official consultation between the defense ministries of the two countries.

During the meeting, discussions focused on the current cooperation in military technologies and personnel training, as well as future development prospects. A decision was also made to establish a joint working group.
