  Crew members of crashed AZAL plane posthumously awarded ‘National Hero of Azerbaijan’ title

President Ilham Aliyev has signed an order on posthumously awarding the title of "National Hero of Azerbaijan" to the crew members of the crashed Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) plane.

Under the order, Igor Kshnyakin, Alexander Kalyaninov, and Hokuma Aliyeva, who tragically lost their lives in the recent plane crash, were honored with the title of "National Hero of Azerbaijan".

The Order reads as follows:

On December 25, 2024, an Embraer 190 passenger aircraft belonging to Azerbaijan Airlines Closed Joint Stock Company, operating flight from Baku to Grozny (Russian Federation), while in the airspace of the Russian Federation lost control and was directed to the city of Aktau, Republic of Kazakhstan. Despite the loss of lives and injuries, the plane made an emergency landing and some of the passengers survived thanks to the high professionalism, bravery, and courage of the pilots and flight attendants.

Guided by Clause 23 of Article 109 of the Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan, I hereby order:

To award the following individuals who displayed high professionalism, bravery and dedication while performing their official duties and saving the lives of passengers during the accident that occurred when the Embraer 190 passenger aircraft belonging to Azerbaijan Airlines Closed Joint Stock Company was operating flight from Baku to Grozny (Russian Federation):

With the title of National Hero of Azerbaijan:

Kshnyakin Igor Ivanovich (posthumously)

Kalyaninov Alexander Georgievich (posthumously)

Aliyeva Hokuma Jalil (posthumously)

With the Order of "Rashadat" (Courage) of the 1st degree:

Asadov Zulfiqar Sardar

Rahimli Aydan Vagif
