Azerbaijan’s Prosecutor General meets with ICMP Director

Azerbaijan’s Prosecutor General, Kamran Aliyev, held a meeting with Kathryne Bomberger, Director-General of the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP).

Welcoming the delegation, Aliyev highlighted the strong cooperation between Azerbaijan’s Prosecutor General’s Office and the ICMP since 2023. He also briefed the delegation on the comprehensive reforms being implemented within the prosecution system under the directives of President Ilham Aliyev.

During the meeting, Aliyev emphasized that 3,983 Azerbaijanis went missing due to Armenia’s military aggression, with many believed to have been tortured and buried in mass graves. He expressed concern that Armenia has yet to provide comprehensive information on their fate.

Kathryne Bomberger thanked Aliyev for the meeting and praised Azerbaijan’s ongoing efforts in addressing the issue of missing persons. She noted that the ICMP is ready to support Azerbaijan in developing a database of missing persons, strengthening the legal framework, training local experts, and establishing modern forensic laboratories.

The discussion, held in a productive and constructive atmosphere, also covered other key areas of mutual interest.
