AZAL joins IATA’s Environmental Assessment Program

During the IATA Aviation Energy Forum, held in Baku, Azerbaijan, Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL), operating under the Azerbaijan Transport and Communications Holding (AZCON Holding), announced that it had joined the IATA Environmental Assessment (IEnvA) program.

The agreement was signed by Jamil Manizade, Chief Commercial Officer at AZAL, and Funda Calisir, IATA’s Area Manager for Türkiye, Central Asia, and Azerbaijan.

IEnvA is a certification program developed to independently assess the commitment of aviation stakeholders such as airlines, airports, cargo handling facilities, freight forwarders, MROs, caterers, and ramp handlers to continuously improve their environmental and sustainability performance. Based on globally recognized standards and industry best practices, including the ISO 14001 environmental management system standard and the IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA), it is a voluntary, subscription-based, turnkey solution for environmental management.

Once IEnvA-certified, AZAL will be able to better assess, manage, and optimize its environmental impact across various operational areas. It will improve its environmental performance and establish a more systematic approach in this field.

“Signing up for IATA’s IEnvA program is a significant step forward in AZAL’s sustainability journey, as it will provide us with a robust framework to systematically improve our environmental performance, align ourselves with global best practices, and contribute to the aviation industry’s decarbonization goals,” said Jamil Manizade, Chief Commercial Officer at AZAL.

“AZAL’s membership of IEnvA underscores its commitment to improving the company’s environmental management practices and sustainability in general. IATA is proud to work with its members to introduce world-class environmental management practices in the aviation industry, as meeting our sustainability commitments is an existential challenge for the entire airline industry,” said Rafael Schvartzman, IATA’s Regional Vice President for Europe.

By implementing the IEnvA program, AZAL aims to strengthen its integration with the international aviation community and align with global aviation industry objectives to reduce its environmental impact.
