Trump says he will meet with Putin ‘as soon as we can set it up’ to end Russia-Ukraine war

US President Donald Trump said Friday that he will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin “as soon as we can set it up” to end the Russia-Ukraine war, AzVision.az reports, citing Anadolu Agency.

Putin decided not to attend this week’s peace talks in Istanbul as his US counterpart was not in the Turkish city, Trump told reporters in the United Arab Emirates.

“They all said Putin was going, (Ukrainian President) Zelenskyy was going and I said ‘If I don’t go then Putin’s not going,’ and he didn’t go. I understand that,” he said.

After his current Gulf tour, Trump said that he is willing to meet Putin for negotiations, but first he will return to the US to see his latest grandchild, born on Thursday.

“I would actually leave here and go, I do want to see my beautiful grandson,” he said.

But Trump stressed that the Ukraine conflict needs to end and so he will meet with Putin to end the war “as soon as we can set it up.”

It’s “time for us to do it,” said the US president.

In addition, Trump also stated that he is aware of the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza, which he said would be “taken care of.”

“We’re looking at Gaza and we’re gonna get that taken care of. A lot of people are starving, there’s a lot of bad things going on.”

“The world is a much safer place right now and in two or three weeks we can have it be a much much safer place,” he added.
