8 dead, 2 hurt in fighting between Afghan army, Taliban
An Afghan official says eight people have been killed and two wounded in fighting between army troops and Taliban militants east of Kabul.
Gen. Khalil Andarabi, the police chief in Wardak province, says the clash Friday took place in front of a mosque in Sayed Abad district.

Andarabi says the circumstances of the fighting about 70 kilometers (40 miles) east of the capital are not immediately clear and authorities are investigating whether the victims were killed by a mortar or a bomb. It was not known yet whether the dead were civilians, soldiers or militants.

Deputy provincial governor Zikria Hussaini says authorities are asking village elders to provide security for their delegation so that they can carry out an investigation.
