US uses more electricity on Christmas lights than these countries do in a year
US families use up more electricity keeping their Christmas lights lit than some countries use in an entire year.
American Christmas lights account for 6.63billion kilowatt hours of electricity consumption each year, according to the Center for Global Development.

Shockingly, that is more than the total electricity consumption of developing countries such as El Salvador (5.35billion kilowatt hours), Ethiopia (5.30billion) and Tanzania (4.81billion).

The 6.63billion kilowatt hours used to power Christmas lights only makes up 0.2 per cent of yearly US energy consumption.
