Moldovan Ombudsman: Peace is impossible in Europe
“The European Union still does not pay enough attention to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. A number of facts are not commented on. There is some socio-political assessment, but not legal. In all of my speeches, I have repeated many times that criminals during the Karabakh War have not yet been brought to international justice. If the world does not give legal assessment to these conflicts, nothing positive can be expected”, Moldovan Human Rights Comissioner (Ombudsman) Aurelia Grigoriu, who is attending an international conference titled “Consequences of the occupied territories in the Eastern Partnership countries”.

According to her, society is unaware of the truth behind the Nagorno-Karabakh and Transdniestrian conflicts.

“The conflicts get extended as the events that happened in Karabakh, the Transdniestrian region and now in Ukraine were not assessed in time. Of course, it’s too difficult to give legal assessment to a conflict. Because the criminals during the Karabakh War have remained unpunished. Europe must take a careful approach toward these matters and help find a solution to these problems. Peace is impossible in Europe unless the conflicts are resolved. Europe must get rid of these conflicts by peaceful means”, she said.

The Moldovan ombudsman also said she loves Azerbaijan very much: “Azerbaijan is my heart. I do love this country and the Azerbaijani people”.
