The residents of Metsamor district appealed to the IAEA.

The residents of Metsamor district of the Armenian Republic ask for help on the closure of the Metsamor NPP.

Regarding the issue, a group of residents appealed to the IAEA on behalf of the people living in Metsamor.

The appeal reads:

`To the International Atomic Energy Agency by the residents of the Metsamor district of the Armenian Republic.

We, as Metsamor residents consider the Metsamor NPP as a danger of radiation and ask you to take immediate measures on the closure of the NPP.`

Note, Metsamor NPP was constructed on the seismically active zone which can cause earthquake of magnitude 11 and on hypocentre at depth of 16-34 kilometres. The power plant is located at a distance of 500 meters from the nearest settlement.

Regular leakages occur at the reactors of plant. Radioactive waste pollutes the environment and is highly dangerous for the region.

Additionally, living near the power plant could pose danger to our lives.

Although the operation term of the Metsamor NPP expired and this kind of cases are repeated, the Armenian government has been alienated.

The operation term of the NPP was extended despite of the nature protectors` protests. We appeal for help on the vital issue. The Metsamor NPP may lead to a big disaster in Armenia if any relevant measures are not taken.
