The diplomat said the rhythm of Azerbaijan-Belarus cooperation was established in 2014 by the presidents of the two countries, reminding that Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev is invited to Belarus.

“The visit is most likely to take place in the second half of 2015. The date of the visit is being specified through diplomatic channels. Furthermore, the foreign ministries held consultations this year. 115 visits took place through the embassy alone. 75 percent of those visits were made from Belarus to Azerbaijan.

Emphasizing the importance of mutual visits, the ambassador said works in this respect will continue.

He also noted that cooperation in the humanitarian area is also developing. The ambassador said seven works in the area of science are just about be finalized, adding that the work on an Azerbaijani-Belarusian dictionary is in the final stage. He also said over 550 Azerbaijani students study in Belarus. Most of them are studying in the field of eliminating the consequences of emergency situations.

With regard to cooperation in the field of sports, the ambassador said Belarus would actively participate in the first European Games to be held in Baku.

Patskevich noted that settlement was constructed for internally displaced persons in Ismayilli district with participation of Belarusian builders, as well as construction works were carried out in Gobu settlement with the participation of Belarus Research Institute.

Commenting on Belarus’s accession to the Eurasian Economic Union, Patskevich said this step will open up new opportunities not only for his country, but also partner countries, including Azerbaijan: “Joining this organization provides access to a market of 170 million people for partner countries. We are positive about the future of the union,” he added.

The ambassador also said that Armenia`s accession to Eurasian Economic Union wouldn’t affect the relations between Azerbaijan and Belarus.

“Our position on this issue remains unchanged. The Belarusian president expressed this position. Armenia`s accession may be possible after completion of all procedures like the creation of custom stations. This issue won’t affect the interests of Azerbaijan”, he said.
