Georgia urges to prevent agreement between Moscow, Tskhinvali
The Georgian foreign ministry called on the international community to exert pressure on Russia in order to prevent the signing of a new Russian-South Ossetian agreement on alliance and integration.
The Georgian foreign ministry calls upon the international community to give a respective legal and political assessment of another intention of Russia, and to put pressure on it for the purpose of prevention of the signing of this document, the statement said.

The statement said that the signing of this document will become a flagrant violation of the international law.

On Dec.22, presidential aide Vladislav Surkov said that the agreed version of the new Russian-South Ossetian agreement on alliance and integration should be ready in January 2015.

It was previously reported that the new contract will be drawn up on the basis of a large contract signed in September 2008, after Russia`s recognition of South Ossetia.

Large scale military action was launched between Georgia and Russia in South Ossetia on August 8, 2008.

Later, Russian troops occupied Tskhinvali and expelled the Georgian military.

Russia recognized the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia in late August.

In response, Tbilisi ended diplomatic relations with Moscow and has called the two unrecognized republics of Abkhazia and South Ossetia occupied territories.
