Iran offers ways for stable operation of North-South corridor
Iran offers to create a transport company to carry out the needed coordination on the International North-South Transport Corridor, Hossein Ashoori, vice president of operation and international transportation of Islamic Republic of Iran Railways, said.
He made the remarks in Baku during the “Strategic Partnership 1520: The Caspian Region” International Rail Business Forum.

He noted that Iran has several proposals for ensuring a stable operation of the corridor.

In particular, Iran suggests creating a transport company that will be responsible for the corridor, with subsidiaries in the corridor’s countries in order to create the necessary coordination, he said.

Necessary measures should also be taken to facilitate customs formalities, and an integrated timetable, competitive and flexible tariffs should be set up for the development of the project, Ashoori noted.

He noted that it is necessary to promote the corridor in Europe, Asia and Africa.

The International North-South Transport Corridor is meant to connect Northern Europe with Southeast Asia. It will serve as a link connecting the railways of Azerbaijan, Iran and Russia.

The corridor is planned to transport 6 million tons of cargo per year at the initial stage and 15-20 million tons of cargo in the future.
