Emma Watson touts gender equality initiative at Davos
Actress Emma Watson unveiled a new gender equality initiative in Davos Friday, saying the effort is aimed at bringing "an end to the persisting inequalities faced by women and girls globally."
Watson, of Harry Potter fame, was tapped as the UN Women goodwill ambassador last July and has been championing the HeForShe campaign — which seeks to enlist men in the push for equal rights for women — since its launch in September in New York.

On Friday, she touted the Impact 10x10x10 pilot project, a year-long HeForShe campaign designed to promote gender equality by working with governments, corporations and universities "and having them make concrete commitments to gender equality," according to Watson.

"It is my belief that there is a greater understanding than ever that women need to be equal participants in our homes, in our societies, in our governments and in our workplaces," she said in Davos, Switzerland, at a press conference that was also attended by U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, among others.

Watson`s September speech at U.N. headquarters in New York, in which she made a rousing case for feminism as HeForShe launched, drew much attention and acclaim.
