Cyprus court passes judgment in favor of dog first time in history
According to the judgment an American Staffordshire Terrier has been seized from its owner and put under state guardianship
The Limassol district court has passed the first in the country’s history judgment in favor of a dog. According to the judgment the American Staffordshire terrier has been seized from its owner and put under state guardianship, the head of Limassol criminal investigation department Ioannis Sotiriadis has told the Cyprus News Agency.

It was the Cyprus police who have interceded for the dog after having concluded during an inquiry of a received call that the dog suffers, starves and is almost left on its own. During the trial police have applied for a temporary guardianship of the dog like in case of the children seized from parents deprived of parental rights.

The court has granted a request and the dog was taken to animal clinic where it will be taken care of. Meanwhile the police proceed with the inquiry against the terrier’s owner.
